Responsible Alcohol Service Policy

Background Information:

The beverage center is the site of a thriving sports bar on campus.

Open to all ages until 11 pm – then 21+

Live music on weekends when there are no football or other major games

Game nights (bingo/trivia etc.) with drink specials throughout the week

Large outdoor patio with comfortable seating

Generally, staff 2 bartenders and 6 servers on weekdays

Attracts a lot of people from out-of-state and internationally.

Assignment:

Provide an initial draft of the business's Statement of Responsible Alcohol Service.

Provide ALL training guidelines/expectations that will be set in place to ensure all staff

understand and follow RAS. This must include:

o ID procedures/expectations

o What is considered one drink in terms of alcohol consumption

o Promotions and marketing i.e. happy hour or drinking games

o Signs of intoxication

o How to handle an intoxicated guest

o Criminal and civil liability for overserving or serving underage individuals

o Who is responsible for training?

o How often will training take place?

o What disciplinary action will be taken for non-compliance?

o Recording keeping policy

The policy should be written in an easy-to-follow format and should be specific to the

operation to ensure it is protected. All good policies have an employee sign-off, so make

sure to include that.

The document should be in 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced with 1-inch

margins all around.
