Overview
I'm working on a calculus discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Using linear equations, solve question 1.
1. Imagine you have a bag filled with 100 apples and oranges. You know each apple weighs .28 pounds, and each orange weighs .33 pounds. When you weigh the bag, you find that you have 31.40 pounds of fruit. How many apples and oranges do you have? (the solution to this will have to be rounded up)
Question 2 is focused on using hyperbola
2.A drum used for percussion has sides modeled by a hyperbola. The total height of the drum is 26 inches. The diameter at the top of the drum is 16 inches, and the minimum diameter is 7 inches, occurring at a height of 9 inches. Assume that the center of the hyperbola occurs at the height where the diameter is the least.
- Draw a graph or figure to represent this situation.
- Determine the equation of a hyperbola that models the sides of the drum.
