UF Chemistry Gas Liquid Equilibrium for An Aqueous Solution Questions

Overview

I’m working on a Chemistry exercise and need support.

An aqueous solution with a pH of 8.5 contains 2mg/L of cyanide (CN-), and the gas above that solution has a partial pressure of PHCN(g) = 10-6 bar.

  • What is the concentration of HCN(aq) in this solution?
    • The following is given:  HCN à H+ + CN- ; Ka=10-9.24
  • Knowing that H = [HCN]g / [HCN]aq = 10-1.4 bar/(mol/L); is HCN transferring from the gas phase into the solution, from the solution into the gas phase, or is the gas-liquid system at equilibrium?
