Overview
Pre-lab planning is essential for every experiment to ensure a smooth and safe process while performing the experiment. Follow the rubric and specific information provided below in this page to create and submit your group's pre-lab plan. Remember all students must submit the group's plan but only one will be graded on behalf of the group. The grade earned for the pre-lab plan will apply to all group members; therefore, we expect each group member to respond with their assigned tasks.
Ensure the document is clear to read and the overall structure is organized. To submit the pre-lab plan to Canvas, create a single PDF file to upload to the corresponding assignment section for this Module in Canvas. The file type should be only PDF. Illegible and/or unorganized pre-lab reports will not be graded.
Here is some specific information to include in the pre-lab plan for this project:
1. You will need to show how to preform parallel and serial dilution calculation (Group member in charge of the calculations, Section 6 in the general pre-lab rubric available in Module 1 or Supporting Documents should work on this part). For this, you can assume the stock concentration of a dye (Red #40, for example) is to be 0.1 M. Depending on the molar absorptivity value of each dye, the concentrations you use may vary, you can use any concentration within the range of 0.01 M to 0.1 M. Show calculations to prepare five different concentrations (total volume can range from 10-50 mL) using parallel and serial dilutions.
2. Describe how to use the UV-Vis spectrometer. What will your group use as a blank? This should be stated in the "Methods and Procedures" Section of the pre-lab plan.
