Overview
I am doing a project on cannabinoids, especially the acid catalysed cyclization of CBD to delta-8/9-THC. I understand that the reaction is basically using the acid catalyst to close the open ring on the CBD molecule, however I am very bad with reading reaction mechanisms and I'm a bit confused about how to explain what is going on. Why is the H+ leaving the double bond and why are the lone pairs on the O atom drawn towards the bond that was broken?
