REAL WORLD APPLICATION: The Periodic Table is Like a Grocery Store
Many of the ideas explored within science can be applied to “real-world” scenarios you experience in your everyday life. This type of comparison is oftentimes called an analogy: an analogy is a comparison between two different things in order to highlight some point of similarity.
The Periodic Table is Like a Grocery Store
The Periodic Table is categorized by organizing the known 118 elements within particular sections. It is your task to detail how these elements are organized, and compare the elements to food items you commonly find within a grocery store (food market). Your goal is to explain how certain foods are organized into specific sections, and offer a justification as to why those foods are organized the way they are. This explanation should then be compared to how elements are organized within the Periodic Table in an attempt to create an analogy.
