Overview
In your own words answer the following discussion question. Use 2 scholarly sources and cite them in apa format: Uv radiation and cosmic radiation have already been used so please do not use these ones.
Radiation comes in many different forms. We are exposed to many types of radiation each day, not only form the technology that surrounds us, but also from natural sources. Choose a source of radiation that a peer has not already chosen and discuss each of the following as part of your initial post:
- Is the radiation ionizing or nonionizing?
- Is the radiation released from this source expected to be dangerous? Why or why not?
- Is this source of radiation natural or artificial?
- Are there any applications for this type of radiation?

Hello,
I went with option two.
UV radiation has the potential to be harmful, especially in high doses. For instance, prolonged sun exposure can cause a number of health problems, such as sunburn, skin damage, early aging, and a higher chance of skin cancer. However, the body has to be exposed to sunshine in moderation in order to create vitamin D, which has a number of health advantages.
Sources of UV radiation might be man-made or natural. Sunlight is one of the natural sources; artificial ones include tanning beds and UV lights used in healing and disinfecting procedures.
UV radiation has various useful applications, including:
Disinfection: Because UV radiation may destroy or inactivate microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and molds, it disinfects surfaces, water, and air. UV sterilization is frequently used in hospitals and water treatment facilities.
Fluorescent Lights: When UV radiation from fluorescent lamps interacts with phosphor coatings inside the bulb, it transforms from ultraviolet radiation into visible light. Fluorescent lights operate in this way.
Tanning Beds: UV radiation is used in tanning beds to cause the skin to produce melanin, which gives the skin a tanned appearance, though excessive usage of these beds can be hazardous. Still, there's a chance that this raises the risk of skin cancer.
