Question:
Genetics is a rapidly evolving area of science. Each year advances in genetics bring exciting new technologies to the market. Areas such as forensics, genealogy, and healthcare have all been affected by new genetic technologies. Choose a genetic technology and report on how this technology is affecting or will effect our lives. Give at least one outside source and cite in APA format.
Use your own words. APA format. 2 scholarly sources.

The type of genetic technology I will discuss is stem cell research. Stem cells are the body's raw cells, which have specialized functionality to help generate growth, repair, and replace damaged or even lost cells. In 1998, the stem cell method was discovered by a "biologist named James Alexander Thomson through his research led him to the discovery of human embryonic stem cells (published under the title Embryonic Stem Cell Lines derived from Human Blastocysts)." (Charitos et al., 2021). Though stem cell research has been around since the 1960's researching animals, his research alone has allowed many healthcare professionals, scientists, biologists, and chemists to study and excel in technological advancements for humans to help cure many different types of health issues, diseases, and cancers, such as “leukemia, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and multiple myeloma.” (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2022). It has also been a benefit to people with "spinal cord injuries, type 1 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, stroke, burns." (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2022). Stem cells have done so many things for different areas of research and have helped the world progress in how we can treat and help people get better; it has even helped the side of research for chemistry since "DNA also plays a MAJOR role in the function of stem cells. Nucleic acids (Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, and Cytosine), phosphate groups, and sugar (deoxyribose) all compose the segments of DNA called genes." (Radonski, 2023). As for this research affecting our lives, stem cell technology is only progressing and getting better. And it has helped millions of people, and hopefully, in the future, it'll help millions more.
