Overview
Calculate the binding energy per nucleon for the following:
A=12C, 23Na, 31P, 39K, 55Mn, 65Cu, 145Nd, 177Hf, 208Pb. Calculate and plot a curve showing the change in BE/A along an isotope line for each element, going through each of the above isotopes, extending to 3 neutrons lower and 3 neutrons higher relative to the given isotope (i.e. 7 points per curve, 9 - isotope lines total).
a). How does the "shape" of each isotope curve change as a function of N? Why that is?
b) Plot the Apex of each curve as a function of A, what does it look like?
Make sure you label each isotope with its elemental name.
Use the equation from the lecture and the following constants:
K =15.67, as=17.23, ac= 0.75, asymmetry = 23
