Clear straws
Food coloring
Votive candles
Salt
Ice
Ruler
4 binder clips
Thermometer
3 Styrofoam cups

**Note: Forming a Plug in the Straw
Forming a plug in the straw using the wax can be difficult. The goal to forming the plug is to create an air pocket in the straw between the colored liquid and the plug. Some other alternatives are: chewed gum, hot glue gun, sticky tack, or any fast drying caulk that will not dissolve when placed in the other solutions (warm tap water).
