Overview
Length requirement for this RR will be the usual RR length requirement times 2 (1000-1250 words minimum, or four to five full pages minimum double-spaced twelve point font, but 6-7 pages is fine if you feel like you need them to do a good job). Most important to do a good job on this guided mini-essay is to digest all the course materials associated with your chosen option and to cover all the questions and sub-points asked about in the option. Don't worry about additional research unless it feels necessary to your argument. Don't use google.com. Focus on course assigned source materials and the relevant lecture-notes!
Compare and contrast various world mythology flood myths (at least 2-3) and their interpretations alongside the Biblical flood myth. The biblical flood myth is covered in our textbook, Introduction to Mythology chapter 13 ("The Bible: Flood", Week 8). Other flood myths to discuss in course-assigned source materials and lecture-notes include the Mesopotamian flood myth ("Atrahasis", Week 2), the Mayan Flood myth ("Popul Vuh", Week 9), and the Incan flood myth ("Cristobal de Molinas", Week 11). You could also substitute one of these for another flood-myth in the textbook, or by doing additional research into another flood-myth (make sure to use valid primary source materials and scholarly interpretations if you bring in other flood myths not covered in course materials). I especially recommend exploring the overt and covert biblical comparison drawn by Mayan authors, and de Molinas's account of of the Incan flood myth versus the biblical one. Where applicable, make sure to engage with and cite from the professor's lecture-notes on the biblical / world flood myth comparisons and interpretations.
