Overview
Overview of Part A, B and C Part A:
Part A of this portfolio task requires you to prepare a summary report of an article of your choice. Refresh yourself with reading the slides on Summary reports. Some of the general guidelines of summary reports that we discussed were: ? State the main idea or purpose as well as the source of the document being summarized. ? Highlight the research methods (if appropriate), findings, conclusions, and recommendations. ? Omit illustrations, examples, other details, and references. ? Organize for readability by including headings and bulleted or enumerated lists. ? Paraphrase accurately from memory without copying passages. ? Include your reaction or an overall evaluation of the document if asked to do so. We discussed making ‘you’ apparent in your writing. Try and write in an organic manner so that your boss can identify you. Try incorporating techniques of primary research that we discussed in class into your summary/statement.
Part B: Refer to Chapter 10 on how to craft winning proposals. Recall we discussed that when government organizations or businesses have a specific need, they prepare a request for proposal (RFP), a document that specifies their requirements. Government agencies and private businesses use RFPs to invite competitive bids from vendors. A solicited proposal is the response to an RFP. Your task is to produce a winning proposal in response to the RFP uploaded to Moodle. Note that RFP uploaded to Moodle is an example of a real-life RFP.
Part C: This is a writing evaluation exercise.
