Negative Debate Case

INSTRUCTIONS

1.) **READ CAREFULLY**: You still have access to the Week 4 discussion thread from last week. Go to the Week 4 discussion thread from last week and choose ONE of the Affirmative speeches you want to argue against as the Negative for this week. Reply to the Affirmative video you want to argue against in the Week 4 thread by typing "Negative". You are now the Negative against this Affirmative speech. Only THREE people may respond to the same Affirmative person, after that you must find a different Affirmative speech to respond to as the Negative.

2.) This week you will record yourself giving a Negative speech (not to exceed 6 minutes but should be at least 4 minutes for your first Negative speech) against the Affirmative speech that you chose. Make sure to upload your Negative Speech with YouTube video (or any other accessible video format) embedded here in the Week 5 discussion thread (NOT Week 4).

3.) Here is the IPDA Negative Debate Case

Actions

template you can use for your speech. As a reminder, your Negative speech should include the following: First, begin your Negative speech on whether you agree/disagree with the Affirmative's definitions and criteria for the debate. Second, argue at least one (but probably two!) "Counter-Contentions". A Counter-Contention has the same structure as Contention (Claim/Data/Warrant argument on why social media is good). Third, you want to REFUTE your opponent's Affirmative Contentions (whatever reasons they gave on why social media causes more harm than good). All this combined should take you close to 6 minutes without going over.

4.) Your Negative speech is due Monday, May 27th by midnight. Make sure to reply which Affirmative speech in Week 4 discussion thread you will be responding to so you can "own" it quicker since only THREE people can respond to one Affirmative video! Feel free to re-watch what the Negative speaker does in the two IPDA debates I posted in last week's discussion thread.
