Overview
SCENARIO:
You are theexecutive assistant to the president of Mercury Manufacturing, alargeball bearing manufacturing company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama that employs approximately 1000 people nationwide. President Mercury has asked you to send a memo to the 10 department managers in the corporate office in Birminghaminforming them of a weekend team building retreat to be held in Highlands, North Carolina, fromFriday, December 4to Sunday, December 6.
The retreat will include a challenging ropes course and bridge building exercise to improve teamwork and boost morale. In addition, there will be continuing professional education (CPE) seminars each day concerningproduct development, marketing, safety issues, and communication improvement. Further recreational opportunities will also be provided at the retreat location. All expenses will be paid by Mercury, andall department managers are expected to attend.
Write a memo to these managers describing the purpose and goals of the retreat. You should also supplyspecific details about the following:
• Transportation
• Accommodations
• Retreat activities
• Appropriate clothing(for the seminars as well as the physical activities)
Upon arrival at the retreat, each participantwill be supplied a detailed agenda, which you should reference within the body of your message. You should also be sure to reinforcethe positive benefits of attending the retreat and provide a method for the participants to RSVP.Try to anticipate any questions the managers might have and supply enough specific details to answer them ahead of time.
Do not use the wording of the assignment; use your own wording.Divide the memo into logical paragraph blocks to aid clarity and coherence. You may alsouse bullet points and/or section headings to organize your ideas. The document should not exceed one page.
