Overview
Pick one day this week to visit the following 3 news websites:
https://www.npr.org/Links to an external site.
https://www.huffpost.com/Links to an external site.
Take careful notes about the issues covered, and read the articles on the front pages of each site.
Answer the following questions:
What were the issue “agendas” set by each publication? Explain how they differ or converge.
Compare how each publication covered the topic of immigration. How was the topic of immigration framed? How did sites differ in their attribution of responsibility for problems related to immigration?
What types of biases (if any) do you see when comparing how these sites cover immigration? Make sure to think about both political bias as well as the other biases, we’ve discussed. If you are going to argue that there is bias in the coverage of one or more of these sources, provide specific evidence or examples of such biases.
- Which news website do you think is giving you the best version the "truth" about immigration? Here, provide specific criteria that you are using for judging the quality of immigration coverage. How was your selection of this site influenced by your own views on immigration?
To receive full credit for this assignment, you must answer all of the prompts thoughtfully and completely. You must also use evidence to support your arguments and claims.
