Overview
In this writing assignment you will be asked to identify a pattern of behavior or attitude that troubles you and that you would like to better understand, then use a theory from class to (a) help us better understand it and (b) create an intervention that will lead to positive change. You will need to find evidence that the pattern exists (e.g., a report or news article), summarize the key elements of the theory you are using to explain it, find and summarize two published studies that have tested the theory (does not need to be in the context of the pattern you are analyzing, and does not need to be testing the entire theory – ideally testing the part of the theory that you will be using in your analysis), discuss how the theory helps explain the pattern, and propose something that the theory would say we should do to create positive change related to the pattern.
