Does utilitarian ethics justify Covid Vaccine Mandates??

[Image unavailable: This thread is pinned]

Hello Students,

It has been four years since the Covid-19 pandemic started. Presently, 82 percent of Americans have been vaccinated. This is significant progress, made possible by vaccination programs that have made shots free and convenient. However, the efficacy of the vaccine wanes after six months and booster shots are needed to keep immunity high against Covid.

Only the new Covid booster shot protects you against the spread of dominant strain HV.1 which is expected to spike this year.

The moral question is whether it is ethical for the military and companies to require employees to get their booster shots in order to keep their jobs?

Can you apply utilitarian ethics, not emotivism, to decide whether it is in the best interests of the greater good to impose a booster shot mandate on soldiers and employees? What are the pros and cons?
