Communications Question

Overview

For this assignment, you should write the first draft of your Rhetorical Review project. This draft should be about 500 words. Make sure to review the feedback that your instructor gave you on your Topic Proposal and also the Rhetorical Review assignment sheet as you work on this draft.

As explained on the assignment sheet, your Rhetorical Review should include 5 sections: Introduction, Summary, Evaluation, Recommendation, and Conclusion. Since this first draft is only 500 words, this draft will not include all 5 sections. This means you can choose to include any of the sections you want in this first draft. For instance, maybe the introduction is something you decide to write after you've written your evaluation, and so you will not include an introduction in this first draft.

Three key points to keep in mind:

  1. The audience for your Rhetorical Review is an ENC 1101 book publisher.
  2. Your purpose in writing this Rhetorical Review is to argue that a specific text should or should not be included in an ENC 1101 textbook.
  3. Your Rhetorical Review should focus on one specific text (the one you chose in your Topic Proposal). However, you should also reference the other texts from your text set. There are different options for how you might reference these other texts, including: In your introduction, you might make connections between all three texts to show that you have read and analyzed all the texts in the set and are therefore making an informed, well thought out recommendation. This will help to build your own credibility (ethos) as an informed reviewer. In your evaluation, you might show how the text you are reviewing uses a specific strategy more or less effectively than the other texts in your text set. This will help to support your argument that the text you are reviewing should or should not be included in the ENC 1101 textbook. In your recommendation or conclusion, you might recommend that the text you are reviewing could be effective if included next to one or both of the other texts in the ENC 1101 textbook. Maybe it would make sense for ENC 1101 students to experience your text before or after one of the other texts in your text set. You will receive instructor feedback on this draft, and you will use that feedback to help you prepare the draft you will submit for peer review feedback.
