After watching the TED Talk by Patricia Ryan “Don’t Insist On English” and the talk by Jay Walker “The World’s English Mania” describe your own feelings and reactions when you hear someone speaking a language other than English in Ft Wayne or Angola. Do the TED Talks influence those feelings now? How do you feel about this phrase: “Hey, you are in America now, you should speak English!” Is there any chance the way you feel about this is impacted by the way you feel about other cultures?

COM 233 Grading Rubric - Discussions Students who get a 100 on the Discussions will have displayed the following
1. Thorough engagement with the textbook content
2. Responded to all of the “prompts” in each discussion (many prompts have several parts)
3. Provided sufficient detail and examples to reveal an “excellent” level of critical thinking in regards to the course content addressed by the prompts and questions.
An 85 indicates a “good” effort at all of the above, but some detail may be missing to thoroughly reveal the student’s level of critical thinking.
A 75 indicates an average effort at all of the above, meaning more detail and examples were required to completely show the student’s level of engagement and critical thinking.
A 59 indicates an incomplete response and/or one lacking in sufficient detail and examples to show the student has engaged with the actual course content.
