Work Plan for Business Report

In the discussion this week you shared the topic you came up with for your Business Report.

For this assignment we will be writing a workplan, which is the first step in writing your business report. The workplan is the outline of your business report and is meant to help you develop your ideas and keep you on track with your research. It specifies the who, what, where, when, why and how of a project. All of you have written outlines for reports at this point, so do not get confused by this being called a Workplan. It is merely an outline meant to keep you on track with your research.

Watch the entire workplan lecture video embedded below. I walk through the assignment and template - step by step.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Watch the lecture video embedded above and view the rubric below.
  2. After watching the video, review the Fill-in-Blank Template Download Fill-in-Blank Template (save to desktop) and fill-out all required sections of the workplan. Again, watching the entire video will help you complete this template - Workplan Lecture Video (embedded above)Links to an external site.
  3. Review book and student examples (if needed)Links to an external site.
  4. Upload your Work Plan as a Word File. No other file submissions will be accepted.

MOVING FORWARD

Below you will see a sample workplan (the outline of the report) and completed business report. As you can see, the student used their workplan (outline of the report) to write the report.

As you begin to research and write your report, you are not constrained by your work plan and can make changes as needed. I will also redirect, if needed, to ensure your report is off to a great start. As discussed in Chapter 12 of your book, a formal work plan is a vital tool for planning and managing complex writing projects.:

The preliminary outline helps guide the research; the report writers may modify the outline when they begin writing the report. As you begin to research and write your report, you are not constrained by your work plan, and can make changes as needed as you continue the process of writing the report.

Page 358 of your textbook shows a preliminary outline to help guide research.

The following video demonstrates how to use your work plan to start your business research:
