Interview Questions

For this assignment you are only posting your primary research interview questions as an email. You will not need to post the responses to your questions. Read the full assignment instructions below.

  • After you complete the assignment, read the MOVING FORWARD section below the rubric for next steps
  • Each week we are building on your report to ensure you have it completed by the end of Week 6

Upon completion of this assignment you will have the interview questions (primary research) for your Written Business Report.

The expectation for Week 3 is that you will draft your questions for your primary research and you will conduct most of your secondary research, so you are ready to write an initial draft of your report.

PROMPT READING

As part of your business report you are required to conduct an interview with one person. They can be someone in the field, a professor that teaches the area, or someone currently doing the job. I suggest interviewing via email so you can copy/paste the answers in the appendix of your paper. This will also allow you to easily do in-text citations.

Chapter 8 talks about writing effective emails. Since you will be emailing your interview questions as part of this assignment and writing concise emails is a key skill in industry, this assignment will focus on both your interview questions and how to send an effective email

Watch the video below to learn the basics of writing a business email and read the following article: How to Write Effective Business Emails (opens in new window).Links to an external site.

Once you have done the above, write an email to your interviewee in the discussion area using what you learned. Your email should be direct, clear, and easy to read.

  • Thank the reader and include a short sign-off.

3. Your email should include your 10 interview questions you plan to use in your primary research interview. Note: You may use the 9 SAMPLE QUESTIONS below or create your own. If you use the questions below, make sure you remove the generic term "this field" and personalize your questions. Failure to do so will result in 0 points on the assignment. You will need to create an additional question to have the required 10.

      2. Where should I go to school for this degree? Why?

STEP 2: MOVING FORWARD (ongoing)

Once you have done the interview, you will take the results from the interview and use them in both your paper and presentation. In your paper you can use them as quotes and will create a graph/chart of the findings (one graph chart is required, but you can do more if you choose). In your Business Report presentation in Week 6 you will give the highlights of your primary research - Student Video Example(Links to an external site).

Next week you should email your interview questions to one person and complete your interview. Remember:

  • Begin to think about which information you can gather in the interview/survey to use to create your pie, line or bar chart
  • List of interview questions will be in the appendix section of report
  • Write about some of the most important or most relevant data that you collected during your interview/survey in the body of your report. The rest of the information will come from the research that you do on your topic (information from primary and secondary research, whether summarized or quoted, needs to be cited in the body of your report as well as on the Work-Cited page).

If you haven't started gathering your secondary data (researched by others) now is a good time to do so. Below you will find a few of my favorite (credible) secondary research websites for this paper.

The expectation for Week 3 is that you will draft your questions for your primary research and you will conduct most of your secondary research, so you are ready to write an initial draft of your report.
