This assignment will be comprised of two submissions - initial draft (DRAFT 1) and a final paper that will summarize the first submission. This is the first submission. Be sure to draw on resources from the text book in addition to your personal experiences. You should reference the textbook and any other relevant resources to support your paper.Use APA, 7th ed Link to an external site. as a resource on how to craft a paper. Please remember to create a title and reference page - you will build on this document for each iteration of your leadership story. Your paper must include a title page and reference page.

Students are asked to reflect on the leadership learnings and experiences in your life to write a personal leadership story. Reflecting upon life experiences from birth to the present day, students will create a leadership profile You will think about what people, events, experiences, opportunities have impacted the way they think about leadership. You will use the following questions to remember and reflect on the foundational and growing experiences that create your story.
When crafting your first essay, think about:
- What is your first memory of “leadership” or a "leadership experience"? This does not necessarily have to be your own. It could include teachers, religious organizations, family leaders, etc. Discuss the experience/memory and give examples.
- What leadership roles (positional and non-positional) did you play in your family, in your community, in school, sports, clubs and organizations, or in in spiritual or religious communities? You may use more than one of these examples to talk about your role.
- Were you encouraged or discouraged you to develop and practice your leadership skills? By whom? How did they do encourage or discourage you to develop and practice your leadership skills? What was the outcome?
Reflection:
- Do you consider yourself a leader? A change agent? What leadership labels or titles do you self-identify with?
- What images come to mind when you think of leadership qualities?
- What is your personal vision in life?
This assignment will be evaluated on ability to effectively communicate the project and analysis of textbook information, as well as the quality of writing. Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length and as this is more of a reflection paper, first person tense (“ I learned my leadership philosophy…”) is expected and acceptable. Make certain to properly cite textbook and other sources. Your paper will be graded using the attached rubric.
- 3 pages minimum; 4 pages maximum; title and reference page excluded from the page count
- Times New Roman 12 font (or similar)
- Include in-text citation using APA 7th edition formatting
- Upload your assignment as an MS Word document for track changes/grading. Save your document using: LastName_FirstName_Assignment_Date.
- Assignments uploaded with any other program or format will be rejected for resubmission. Do not restrict editing the document. Feedback will be via track changes and comments
