Communications Question

Overview

This assessment gives you the chance to put the academic and rhetorical theories you’ve learned on the course into practice by writing your own article on any of the topics discussed on the course. How to do it: Choose your topic. You may choose to write about a topic that inspires you or may write in response to a piece of media we have examined that interests you. There are two parts to this assessment. Part 1: Write a 1,000-word article ensuring that you use some of the academic theories and techniques discussed in class. Remember that every word is a choice. Part 2: Add footnotes (c. 1,000 words) to indicate what choices you made in the article at the relevant point in the text. For example, if your first sentence begins “You may wonder why I chose to share that Facebook post regarding the election”, you may add a footnote after “You[1]” (see the bottom of this page for the footnote) to indicate that you wanted to suggest you are talking directly to the reader and taking them into your trust. You will find an example of an annotated article in the Assessments tab. [1] The direct approach is used to give the effect of communicating directly with the reader.
