Overview
For this final paper, you are asked to write a 2-3 page paper that discusses how you view yourself as a person. Think about all the topics we have discussed and analyze your thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions when writing this paper. Please highlight at least 2 concepts from our readings in each section, and include the page number of the concept. When I say concept, I mean, think about what was discussed in each chapter (the bolded words, ones that had examples, etc). This means only certain words will be highlighted, not full sentences. When I say "highlight", I mean both elaborate on the concept you are referring to and literally highlight the word so it stands out. There are examples below in each section. The paper should cover the following:
Section 1: Roles
Discuss 3 primary interpersonal roles that you see yourself playing at this time in your life. For example, I see myself as a Friend, a Father, and a Teacher. Possible roles may include (but are not limited to): son/daughter, boyfriend/girlfriend, wife/husband, father/mother, brother/sister, coach/athlete, roommate, student, employee, boss, etc. Reflect on how you communicate in each of these roles and how you deal with conflict in each of these. Are they similar in all of the roles? Or do they differ based on your role? Use examples to illustrate points.
- EXAMPLE: My top 3 roles currently are wife, mom, and daughter. I would say that overall, I am a very direct communicator, however, I think how I deal with conflict differs in each of these roles. My husband and I tend to fall into the validating couple (pg.333) category for several reasons. XXXXXXX
Section 2: Past Experiences
I want you to list 5 references to people, experiences (short or long-term), single events (limit these), significant media inputs (books, magazines, T.V. shows, computer stuff, radio, etc.) that you feel has had a significant influence in your life and how.
- EXAMPLE: Although there have been many experiences in my life that have had a significant influence on my life, my top 5 are: the death of my mother, the death of my stepmom, having my first baby, starting therapy, and meeting my husband. To start with the death of my mother, grief (pg.257) has been something that I have never dealt with until then, and truly didn't deal with it until recently, even though she passed 13 years ago. XXXXXXXX
Section 3: Future
Identify one key characteristic that you have in your life that you feel needs improvement and discuss it briefly. Then develop a well-thought-out, practical plan for dealing with this particular issue in your life. This can be in any area of your life. For example, if I want to quit drinking, what steps can I take to overcome this, and exactly what do I need to do to overcome it?
Format: No specific format is needed. You can simply put the headings with paragraphs under them as seen below :
