Overview
- Visit https://chatgpt.com/
- Underneath the heading “What can I help with?” you will see a text box where you are prompted to message ChatGPT:

- In this text box write the following prompt and hit enter:
Generate me a list of four peer reviewed sources about [subtopic] in [topic] - ChatGPT will then produce a list of four sources based on your prompt. Copy and paste your prompt and ChatGPT’s response into a word document as you will need this for the remainder of the assignment.
- Using all resources available to you (the York Library search, any of the Library’s databases, Google Scholar, Google, etc.), do your best to locate the four sources that ChatGPT has provided for you.
- If you successfully locate the source: Download a PDF of the article (if the York Library has access to the article).
- If you cannot access a PDF of the source (i.e., York does not have a subscription to the journal or it is a physical book) you are not expected to pay to access the article or submit a physical copy of the source. Instead, provide a screenshot and any other evidence you can provide to that this is a real source that exists out there in the world.
- Alongside this proof that the source exists, write a brief description about how you found the source.
- If you are unable to locate the source:
- Write a summary of all the resources you consulted to try and locate the source. Describe all the ways you tried to find the source.
- Is this source fake or just extremely hard to find?
- Make a clear statement about if you think this is a fake source, and describe your evidence for coming to this conclusion.
- If you believe there is a possibility that this source could be real but you were just unable to find a copy of it, provide your evidence for coming to this conclusion.
- Upload your PDFs, evidence, and written responses to #6 and #7. You can upload your investigations for each of the four sources as separate documents, or compile it into one large file, but please be sure to label everything clearly.
