When it comes to communication, you might think that you just open your mouth and say what’s on your mind. However, over the years, as researchers have studied communication, the ideas about how communication works in relationships and the role each person plays in a conversation have changed. Communication is now seen as a transactional and systemic process. This means that when you communicate with another person, the communication from both people happens at the same time, can take place within different contexts, changes based upon the context, and is ongoing.
For this week’s Discussion, you will work with some of the models of communication that researchers have developed over the years and apply them to your own communication. The transactional model of communication is the most complete.

Review the principles of communication from Landin’s presentation and the Psychology Today article.
Post a two-paragraph response to the following:
- Describe two encounters you have had that illustrate two of these principles in action. The interactions can be negative or positive, but each one needs to demonstrate one of these principles in action.
- Explain which principle is being illustrated in each interaction and how that principle affected the interaction.
