When it comes to communication, you can send a clear message not just through your words and your voice, but also through your actions and gestures. Both verbal and nonverbal communication play a prominent role when you interact with the people around you. In many cases, you likely interact with others without giving your tone of voice, actions or gestures much thought. However, during a professional situation like a presentation or job interview, your tone of voice, actions, and gestures matter as much as the words you speak. Add the complexity of communicating in a virtual format and a conscious focus on your nonverbal communication becomes even more important.
In this week’s Assignment, you will explore verbal and nonverbal concepts through the lens of your own professional persona. You also examine how to maintain a professional persona with nonverbal communication during a virtual interview.

Using the undergraduate paper template, write a 250- to 500-word paper addressing the following:
- Using the verbal and nonverbal concepts covered in this week’s Learning Resources, imagine you are preparing for a virtual job interview. Create a professional persona for your interview and describe how you would determine what the backdrop would be and what you would wear and why.
- Explain how you would ensure that your nonverbal communication (your body language, gestures, backdrop, and tone of your voice, etc.) remains professional and appropriate during the virtual interview.
- Include some discussion of at least two of this week’s resources. Bold the names of the concepts as you use them.
