Overview
Position 7: For this assignment you get to pick one of the options below. You cannot pick something you used for the previous paper.
- The greatest musician/band of all time is...
- The greatest book of all time is...
- Should college be free?
- Should the U.S. abolish the electoral college?
Structure:
- Use the Narrative Toulmin model discussed in Narrative Toulmin lecture.
- Must be at least 1 full page in length.
- You need three sources of information(i.e. 3 grounds) to support your argument.
- Rather than picking several reasons to vote for or against the propositions just pick one(1 warrant) and develop it.
- Using the week's lecture on Counter-Arguments, add one to your paper. Anticipate and respond to an attack your opponent might make. Put the counter-argument in italics in the paper.
- Make sure to clearly reference your evidence including where it is from and the date of publication in the body of the paper. Put your evidence in bold in the paper.
- Use the Should College Athletes be paid? sample as the template you should follow.
- THIS IS FOR position 8 :Here are a few random arguments. Using the analysis provided in the Refutation Lecture refute them as if you were on the other side of the debate. Remember to follow the structure explained in the lecture and to identify what type of response you are using. Also, pay close attention to the information, I may be lying about something. ;)1. The Godfather is greatest film of all time because it won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director in 1974 according to the Internet Movie Database. 2. Community College should not be free because it is already so affordable. According to a study done in 1983, community college only costs a couple of thousand dollars. 3. We should not legalize marijuana because everyone knows that people who smoke too much weed are lazy. These seem simple but spend some time deconstructing every argument. Check for bad info or fallacies. Also, develop your responses. Don't just give me 1-2 sentences. Explain what the flaw is and why it is bad. Each response should have at least one source!Respond to all of them!
