Post1The Dark Web and Other Digital Crimes
Thus far, we have seen how technology could be used for numerous objectives. We have also identified how the legal framework of different jurisdictions might play a role in technology adoption. However, we have not contemplated its dark side. You are required to watch the following documentaries from Netflix:
- The Tinder Swindler (Trailer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNO4X__dagA
- Cyber Hell: Exposing an Internet Horror (Trailer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpceNxQASKw
- Cyberbunker: The Criminal Underworld (Trailer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoAEA1gO9Zg
Questions:Once you finish watching these documentaries, reflect on all the diverse ways digital technologies could be used to commit crimes. Is our legal system prepared for the emergence of these new crimes? Does culture play a role? What ethical considerations are highlighted, and what steps should individuals and society take to navigate the digital landscape more safely and responsibly? How do these documentaries shed light on the dark side of the internet and the potential dangers users may face?
Post2 Doordash, Uber, Lyft and the Individual's Wellbeing
Over the past decade, the rise of digital platforms like Uber, DoorDash, and Upwork has transformed how people work, giving rise to what is now known as the gig economy. These platforms promise flexibility, independence, and opportunities for entrepreneurship—but they also raise serious questions about labor rights, wage security, and the erosion of traditional employment structures. As more workers engage in short-term contracts or freelance work facilitated by technology, society must grapple with the implications for economic justice, job stability, and the role of regulation.
Question:Does the gig economy represent a step forward in worker autonomy and entrepreneurship, or does it undermine labor rights and economic security? Can it be both? You are expected to review the following material when preparing your answer:
