I. According to Ben Lesser in an article published in November of 2022 on Dualdiagnosis.org, "For many people, 30 days is only the beginning of a program that will last several months, if not years.
A. 30 day plan – medical detox and residential treatment
1. Detox- 7 to 10 days…is the use of medication…important for me withdrawals
2. Residential – the rest of 30 days…schedule…individual therapy…group therapy
B. According to Ben Lesser in the same article published in November 2022 on Dualdiagnosis.org, "35% of people who stayed in treatment for 90 days or less relapsed within one year of leaving."
1. Program helps physically not emotionally & psychologically need for true recovery
2. Going into treatment…wasn’t that simple…verge of relapse
Transition: Now that we have established that addicts are not fully recovering in short-term treatment to be successful in long-term sobriety, let us talk about a solution that worked best for many other addicts and me.
II. Coming out of treatment…life on life terms…found in NA, stated attendee
A. What is NA requirements for membership?
1. According NAWS in 2008, NA is fellowship, meet stay clean, follow 12steps
2. Anyone join race, sex, religion. Not interested in…requirement desire to stay clean
B. Benefits of NA.
1. Support system – related to, accepted me, no judgement.
2. Sponsor – mentor in NA, worked steps, helps navigate recovery.
3. Growth in 12- steps.
4. Working the steps has helped me learn more about my true self, come to terms with my
past, and provide me with skills to go through life without drugs
Conclusion: Today discussed benefits of attending treatment to heal physically not all aspects recovery. Learned solution repair mental in NA. Spring 2020 class didn’t show up afraid of admitting to myself and others. Here rocking it. Proof NA works. Unafraid to tell truth and spread message of NA to other addicts.
