Overview
NSTRUCTIONS: write an essay comparing any two articles assigned in this course. Summarize each and
then think about them together aiming to make a substantive connection, i.e. your task is to detail how the articles are conceptually related, which means you will need to put them into conversation to argue that they support each other or diverge on a fundamental issue (10 points). The goal of this essay is to allow you to explore how one text extends, questions, or builds upon some concept or approach from another text allowing rhetoricians to think in a new direction, persuade differently, or make key applications to important areas. To do this, consider what the authors each suggest we must do or learn (about persuasion, science, or society). Explain each article’s importance and relevance for a rhetoric of science, and argue that they fit together or that one article is more appropriate, fitting, relevant, or effective today. Note: it will not be enough to speak in general terms about persuasion or about the texts. You will need to quote the articles and discuss their specific ideas. You will need to be specific when you compare what each brings to the table (How? For whom?). Explain your statements. The essay should be 3-5 pages, double spaced in 12pt Times font. List the articles that you cite at the end of the essay.
