Assignment 1: Public Service Infographic

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to create an Infographic that demonstrates cultural mindfulness in communicating health information to a specific population.

INSTRUCTIONS

Format

  • ion in a way that is culturally appropriate. Possible examples of underserved healthcare populations include refugee communities in Dallas, residents of a low-income neighborhood in Memphis, TX, elderly residents of a nursing home, or low-income children in South Texas. Those are just examples -- come up with your own idea for a specific underserved population. Then, pick a topic of health communication importance. Possible topics include:
  • How to determine if someone is having a stroke
  • What to do if someone is bitten by an unidentified spider
  • The difference between COPD and pneumonia
  • How to choose the most effective sunscreen to prevent skin cancer
  • Which is worse for people: fat or processed carbohydrates?
  • The latest in prosthetic devices
  • Causes and symptoms of Zika virus

The infographic must be accompanied by a paragraph that explains why the population you chose is underserved in healthcare, and how the infographic is culturally appropriate for your target population.

Assignment 2 : Power and Purpose of Faustian Bargain through the centuries

Purpose: Use a literary argument to explain why the Faustian Bargain has survived through the centuries and is still popular in our own contemporary culture.

Assignment: Why has the Faustian Bargain or idea of selling one’s soul to the devil for different reasons with the expected consequences continued to remain popular in many cultural contexts through the centuries? Some have argued that this story has universal appeal, speaking to all people, all cultures, all ethnicities, throughout all centuries. Defend or deny this claim, explaining why you think readers are interested (or not interested) in this story and/or why readers relate (or do not relate) to the characters and events. How might this argument support Tolkien’s theory of Story Soup. Write a 400-word response in APA format agreeing or disagreeing with the above argument. Use specific sources from the text/film to support your assertions.
