Communications Question

Overview

please have separate documents for each part. no outside sources needed really, just original, self reflective answers.

part 1:

watch the the Nacerima video find ONE task (e.g. putting in contacts, but don't use that one!) and describe it in a way that someone who has zero familiarity with humans or with your culture might describe it. This is a great way to practice "Seeing" in the way we are talking about. Write a 300 word (minimum) description

part 2: Touch has changed so much in the last couple of years. From touching surfaces to hugs to handshakes, even touching our own faces - we are reminded that over the last couple of years, COVID-19 has affected all of our touching norms.

Given these changes, interview at least one other person AND insert your own reflections - how did COVID-19 and the "touch restrictions" affect how you interact in your everyday lives? Has it changed in the last year? How? If it has, have things gone "back to normal"? How have or haven't they? Be prepared to dig deep asking people - they may immediately say that it really hasn't - but dig deep to find out the real answer! 300 words minimum. no outside resource needed, original answers please.

part 3: Movie: Disney's Coco! So let's take a look at how haptics works in your movie or TV show. You should watch at least 60 minutes of a movie and watch at least 2 episodes of a TV show. Pay attention to when touch happens. DON'T forget to pay attention to self touch, as well as touch of objects. You don't have to record EVERY touch, but watch through to see if you can answer these questions:

1. What counts (from YOUR perspective) as meaningful touch?

2. What counts as non-meaningful touch?

3. Do you see differences for when touch happens "on purpose" (i.e. acting) versus not on purpose?

4. When does touch happen, versus not happen. Is it with/between particular characters? Is it mostly self touch or little of that?

5. Knowing what you now know about haptics, how do you see touch here as differing from "real life". This one should be a minimum of 400 words

part 4: Movie: coco. Ok - let's take a look at your piece of media (TV show or movie). Take a look at how proxemics (personal space) "work" in there. Please try to address the following questions:

1. Can you see the four different distances? How do they work in this piece of media?

2. What kinds of factors do you see at work here? Gender/Sex? Race? Liking? Age?

3. Is there anything you don't see here that you would expect to see when it comes to personal space? If so, why do you think the director had it in there?

400 words minimum.
