Overview
Part 1: Media-Disney’s Coco
For this paper I want you to look at how sex/gender works in your media. What does it mean to be a "man" or a "woman"? What happens when someone "breaks" one of these norms? How does the acting/set structure it so you know? Do you think the behaviors the actors portray are "natural" to their gender, or are they scripted? Why or why not? How is sex/gender important in your media? Are the cues they use the same as the ones you would see in real life?
Describe in at least 350 words.

Part 3: Media- Disney’s Coco
For this paper I want you to look at how culture works in your media. Are there "insiders" and "outsiders"? This doesn't have to relate to race or ethnicity (though it can). Please don't use gender - that one is coming next! But look at who counts as being "in" and who counts as being "out". How does the acting/set structure it so you know? Why is that important in your media? Are the cues they use the same as the ones you would see in real life?
Describe in 500 words minimum.
Part 4: Media- Disney’s Coco
Take a look at your TV show or Movie. What counts as some of the different territories that we've talked about? How do you know? Why do you think the director made those choices? How does the director (and actors) "mark" home versus public versus interactional territories?
500 words minimum
Part 5: Media- Disney’s Coco
How do body alterations and coverings work in your media? Remember, people are paid to do make up and hair particular ways, and costumes are created in particular ways. So don't just tell me what you see, tell me WHY it's there!
300 words minimum
Part 6:
In this discussion I want you to talk about what emotions are appropriate for whom in the workplace. In other words, what emotions can be shared? Who can share them? What are some ways we learn these rules? (Hint - don't answer you just picked them up - really think about it). What happens when someone violates these cultural rules?

Part 7:
Think about going out for the evening (Pre-Covid and Post-Covid) - maybe at a bar or a club. What "counts" as male nonverbal behavior versus female behavior? What is acceptable for each? What is unacceptable for each? Think especially about how we use our bodies in walking, sitting, moving, holding things, etc.

Part 8:
Talk about a time when you felt crowded. Given what was talked about in the text, why do you think you felt crowded? Can you think of some changes that could have been made (other than the number of people) where it would not have felt crowded?
