part 2: Media- Disneys Coco
please use most or all of the attached document in the paper. The document is a past assignment that can be used in the final construction of the paper. please use most if not all of it!!
Purpose of Assignment:
After reading the textbook and listening to the lectures, you will analyze the use of particular nonverbal subcodes in a movie or television show to determine, and be able to explain, the function of that subcode within the television show/movie. This should be a television show/movie that you already know well. For television shows, use only one season. The body of the paper will be organized according to the following subcodes:
- Body Section 1: Choose from TOUCH or PERSONAL SPACE
- Body Section 2: Choose from TERRITORY AND ENVIRONMENT or PHYSICAL APPEARANCE or BODY ALTERATIONS AND COVERINGS
- Body Section 3: Choose from EYE CONTACT/GAZE (Chapter 8) or PARALANGUAGE or CHRONEMICS
Process for Completing Assignment:
- Read text/listen to chapter videos
- Choose the three subcodes you wish to analyze for this final paper
- For EACH subcode, identify and describe a number of examples (3-4) from the TV show/movie in your analysis
- Explain the function that these subcodes are performing, and explain how this is happening through the examples you provide. Remember, these are actors and sets so these nonverbals were specifically chosen.
Organization of Final Paper
- Introduction (approx. 200-250 words): Should give a very brief introduction of the TV show/movie.
- Body (approx. 2000 words): Divide into 3 parts - one for each subcode you are analyzing. The beginning of each of these sections should identify the subcode you are working with and the function(s) it plays in the show/movie . Then present an argument showing me how each of your examples demonstrates the function fulfilled by that subcode. This process should be repeated for each of the subcodes. All sections should have headers.
- Conclusion (approx. 200-250 words): Should tie up your argument and reinforce why you believe each subcode is performing that particular function within the TV show/movie.
NOTE: it is EXPECTED that you will draw from (including cut & paste) some of the assignments you have turned in for the class for this paper. So, you should essentially be working on this final paper throughout the entire course!
Grading Criteria:
Clear organization with headers (intro/body/conclusion)- 10 points
Argumentative structure is sound (specific examples and their functions are discussed) - 50 points
Correct usage of nonverbal subcodes - 10 points
Writing is clear and without errors- 30 points
