Directions
Think of a real situation in which you or someone you know used one of Brockreide's three ethical stances of rhetoric and explain how this stance affected the outcome of the interaction.
In your video, you should clearly address each of the following parts. Be sure to pause briefly or verbally label each section so it’s clear which part of the question you are answering. (For example: “First, I’ll describe the situation…” or “Next, I’ll explain which stance I used…”)
Your Video Should Include:
- A description of the situation (what was the situation, who was involved, where did it occur, and what happened?)
- You should choose a situation that allows you to be detailed and helps you answer each question fully. Be able to refer to specific statements, non-verbals, etc. to help you support your answers.
- What rhetorical ethical stance (Brockreide's) did you and the other take? How and why? (In this situation, was I a 'x' arguer)
- Be specific by identifying certain behaviors (ex. language choice, tone, non-verbals, etc.) and connecting them to the ethical stance.
- How did your ethical stance affect the interaction for better or worse? What would be the outcome if you had used a different stance?
