Communications Question

Overview

Reflective paper: Paper will be a minimum of 3 pages written text, double spaced, 12 pt. font (does not include required cover page). Each paper shall focus on any topic(s) covered within the class that may be expanded on as a result of academic, personal, or class experiences. A reference page should also be submitted when necessary.

Module 5 assignment: In previous modules, we’ve explored how social determinants shape the health of individuals and populations. In this assignment, we explore how these factors shape gender and health, and nutrition. Women’s and children’s health are often used as a marker of the overall health of a nation. Health of women and children is influenced by many factors, but a primary driver is economic and social equality. In this assignment, we ask you to examine rates of malnutrition, maternal health and the social progress index. We will also look at child nutrition and maternal health as markers of overall public health.

1. Select two countries from the following list: Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Maldives, Guatemala, El-Salvador, Hondorus, Ecuador, and Albania.

2. Use the https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/ to find the four unique indicators listed on the assignment for both countries.

3. Access the following World Bank Nutrition Report for your two countries, and complete the indicator report on the assignment:

Indonesia: https://documents1.worldbank.org/curated/en/401571468266368081/pdf/936800BRI00Box0ce0Indonesia0English.pdf

Zimbabwe: https://documents1.worldbank.org/curated/en/358201468344940748/pdf/772070BRI0Box000zimbabwe0April02011.pdf

Maldives :

4. Go to Social Progress Index (https://www.socialprogress.org/social-progress-index) and get the report card for the two countries you’ve identified above. Complete the general ranking and status score for each country. Then, select two indicators that might influence child nutrition or women’s health and complete the subsequent chart:

  • equality before the law and individual liberty
  • child stunting
  • equal access to quality education
  • access to essential health services
  • infectious diseases
  • unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene

Classroom Chats and Responses are a place for you to share your personal experiences as it relates to the course content. You are expected to write at least one well- developed paragraph (6 sentences) that refers to the course content for the assignment module. In other words, you are expected to discuss the course content (i.e., videos, readings, presentations/lectures, course concepts) from each week in your chat. While we will not be grading on grammar, spelling, APA etc. in this discussion board, you are expected to write well and in your own words. Copy and pasted material from other sources will not be accepted.

You will be expected to have a total of 2 classroom chat posts in a week; both are due on Fridays. We encourage you to question your classmates and push them to think of issues in depth and with complexity. We will be doing this too. With that said, make sure you post in a way that is respectful of others. While this is more causal writing, you should still have a well-developed theme in each post, rather than a collection of random thoughts.

Original CC Post: To get full credit, your classroom chat post should 1) be at least 6 sentences, 2) discuss at least one of the course materials in relation to either a) a personal or clinical experience, b) another course resource or c) a resource outside the class, 3) provides a reflection on what you have learned.

Reflective writing is a response to new information you gained through learning. It is not summarizing or regurgitating information; rather it is reflecting on what you learned from the information. Reflective writing is an activity that includes description (what, when, who) and analysis (how, why, what if). It is an explorative tool often resulting in more questions than answers.

Response CC Post: Your response should 1) respond to one of your peer’s Original CC post 2) be at least 5 sentences, 3) be about a different topic than your Original CC post 3) compare or contrast your peer’s Original post to a) personal or clinical experience, b) another course resource, or c) a resource outside the class.
