This is my project topic - I want to look into the legal and regulatory issues related to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights in college sports, especially how state laws and NCAA rules influence NIL opportunities. I'm looking into how varying state laws affect competition between schools and how the NCAA has had a hard time keeping rules consistent because of these legal issues.
I picked this specific focus because, as a student-athlete, I've noticed how NIL is changing college sports, but also how confusing and inconsistent the rules can be based on the state or school. The conflict among state governments, universities, and the NCAA brings up crucial issues about fairness and rules that impact athletes' rights and chances. As I aim to work in sports management, it's important for me to understand these legal issues to handle contracts, recruiting, and athlete representation down the line. I'm looking at state NIL laws, court decisions, and NCAA rules to get a clearer picture of how these changes will affect college sports and its management.
