Textbook: Floyd, K. (2021). Interpersonal Communication (4th ed.). Dubuque, IA: McGraw-
Hill. ISBN13: 9781264142873
In this paper you will analyze a conflict you have experienced in one of your personal relationships (friendship, family, romantic, or workplace). Please respond to the following prompts in a 3-4 page paper (double-spaced).
Note: No introduction or conclusion is required for this paper.
1. First, describe the conflict. Basically, I would like you to provide me with some background information for me to put this conflict into context. In the description you may answer some or all of the following questions (or provide other information if you think it is relevant): Who was involved in this conflict? What was the conflict about? How long did the conflict last? (was it one conflict episode or multiple?)
2. Identify the type(s) of conflict that occurred in this specific situation(s). Types include pseudoconflict, fact, value, policy, ego, and metaconflict (descriptions on PowerPoint). Please explain why these conflict type(s) applied to your situation with specific examples.
3. What forms of power existed during this conflict? Explain using specific examples.
4. Which conflict management strategies(s) did you and the other person use in this conflict? (e.g., competing, avoiding, accommodating, etc.). Explain using specific examples.
5. Lastly, I want you to reflect on how you handled the conflict. Do you think you managed the conflict well or could you have approached the situation in a more productive manner? Explain.
*** Please remember that if you directly quote or paraphrase material from the textbook, a course reading, or any other outside source you must cite that material (in-text citation). Also, you must provide a Works Cited or Reference page at the end of your paper. The Works Cited or Reference page does not count toward the page length of the paper.
