Advocacy is at the forefront of the school counseling profession and counselors are trained to advocate for students’ social emotional wellness. The ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for school counselors outline that as a profession, counselors are charged with serving all students through the implementation of evidence-based practices and social emotional programs. Through advocacy efforts, school counselors can take steps to ensure that social emotional programs are implemented and supported in schools. As a result, counselors can advocate and present social emotional programs to school boards, principals, teachers, parents, and educational stakeholders.
