Discussion: The goal of this discussion to identify key aspects of communications ethics and apply them to an organization.
In late 2023, Taylor Swift led an economic boom in the hospitality industry in the cities where she performed her mega-successful Eras tour. Her relationship with a football player created a firestorm of media exposure, creating added interest in the National Football League.
First, read the case study about Taylor Swift from the Harvard Business Review Course pack (use the link in the syllabus). Then post your reply to the following:
What ethical areas are to be considered?
- Using Pfeffer’s 7 rules of power information, compare and contrast the primary rules you identify that apply to Taylor Swift.
- Now reflect on your own approach to ethical choice-making. Let's help you find your moral compass by getting in touch with your personal values. Name your top 5 values using any values tool you wish.
- Next, think of one time you had to make a hard choice that involved a moral dilemma, and your decision left you feeling uncomfortable. What is one new strategy you could try out next time to align yourself more closely with your values? Assignment 1: The goal of this assignment is to identify crucial conversation strengths and improvement areas.
After watching the Crucial Conversations video (below) and reading Bower’s (2016) takeawaysLinks to an external site., consider how well you are positioned to handle crucial conversations.
Instructions
You have two options for this assignment. You can write a 3- to 4-page paper (not including cover page and references) in APA style summarizing your thoughts about the video, or you can record a video of no more than 12 minutes addressing the following questions:
- What are your areas of strength? Areas of Improvement?
- Given your current knowledge of negotiation, how do these strengths and weaknesses impact your negotiation skills?
- What role does power play in these conversations?
- How will you make the changes needed to execute crucial conversations with confidence?
Assignment 2:
Your entries are to be reflections on concepts, ideas, quotes from your colleagues, or even questions you wish to explore. You are not required to share any personal thoughts that make you uncomfortable. You are encouraged to keep the term project in mind as you craft your work.
