Create a person-centered activity to help the client/student achieve one or more of the goals of person-centered counseling (i.e., facilitate personal growth and development; eliminate or mitigate feelings of distress; increase self-esteem and openness to experience; enhance the client’s understanding of themselves (Buhler, 1971). The selected activity can be used for individual or group counseling, individual student planning meetings, classroom guidance lessons, career counseling, parents, adults, etc.
Your person-centered activity should be applicable to your practice and should provide relevant information including but not limited to:
- Goal: (ex: Student will be able to identify, monitor, and discuss their feelings.)
- ASCA Standard(s): (list here)
- Grade Level: (ex: Elementary, PK-3)
- Activity Description: (ex: Student will complete the feeling chart to identify their feelings prior to beginning the counseling session.)
- Ending of session: (ex: recap of the session, assessment of activity effectiveness, student’s insight or self-understanding that emerged, student’s closing thoughts, feelings, or action plans)
- Counselor notes: (ex: next steps for student, ideas for additional activities)
You may create your person-centered activity in any format of your choosing.
