Overview
This is a PowerPoint Presentation Assignment.
Find a local nonprofit organization in whose cause you are interested (you will work with this organization for the rest of the class). Make sure that it is heavily connected to the community and produces real benefit to the community, and make sure that it is locally owned (no national nonprofits like the Girl Scouts or the Boys and Girls Club). It should also not be heavily faith-based, although it can have a connection to religious belief.
In a PowerPoint fully branded to the organization, tell us:
- What the organization is and what it does:
- What issue or issues is your client engaging (e.g., hunger, women’s health, climate change)?
- How does it help (through what programs), and why (to solve what specific problem?)? Evaluate this through the 7Ps of Marketing (remember this is from the perspective of the stakeholder “purchasing” a “product,” which could be donating or volunteering), considering all the various things it does (i.e., in addition to the various ways it helps the community, does it sell things? Host events? Work with volunteers?).
- What is its mission?
- On what media does it appear (e.g., YouTube, a Facebook page, a newsletter, etc.), and what events does it run (find this on their website and social media or call them)?
- What do reviews of the organization (e.g., on Charity Navigator) tell us?
- Include any other useful operations details (like finances found publicly through their 990 tax form).
- Tip: I strongly suggest you sign up for any newsletters they offer at this point as well!
- Perform an analysis of your client’s macro situation using a STEEPLE analysis, citing at least 10 sources (at least 5 of them should be from peer-reviewed, scholarly journals, written within the past 15 years) in Chicago 16th Author-Date format (in-text and bibliography, remember!). Remember that STEEPLE is macro, so it is not focused on your organization but rather the situation in which your organization exists/operates.
