Overview
Code of ethics scenario: Create a response to a scenario utilizing the what, why, and what you would have done in the situation to resolve it and how this violated state licensing, county, and city laws.
Sections of this essay:
1. THE WHAT: Using the ASHA Code of Ethics, identify one or more Principles and the corresponding Rule(s) Make sure to write out the entire content of the selected Principle as well as the Rule Number and Rule Content of the violations described. (The SLP violated the ASHA Code of Ethics (2023) what principles and rules have been violated?)
2. THE WHY...1-2 paragraphs indicating why the scenario demonstrates a violation of the professional Code of Ethics. RATIONALE CAN GO HERE. Also how did you come to this conclusion (steps/models)
3.WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE, describe your decision-making process to resolve the ethical dilemma. (Remember that ethical issues typically do not have a definitive right or wrong answer – that is why it is an ethical issue – YOU need to think about the situation presented and determine YOUR thoughts on the scenario) this would include providing an alternative ethical solution to the problem. Explain how the speech-language pathologist could have handled the situation in an ethical manner. (What alternatives may or may not have assisted in addressing the situation that you selected.)
4. Provide information about if and how the scenario also violated state licensing, county, city laws. Please be descriptive and explain. (Has the SLP violated the licensure law of YOUR STATE and if so what components of the licensure law/s were violated? Obviously, you will need to look at the licensure laws for SLPs in YOUR state.) - check all aspects for example SLPs may fall under all healthcare providers or businesses. Make sure you provide the website and state code/laws you checked.
