Over the remainder of the semester, you will complete a Final Paper Proposal with Annotated Bibliography, a Final Paper Outline, a Final Paper Conference, a Final Paper Presentation, and a Final Paper of 3600-4500 words. Altogether, the Final Paper project will be worth 120 pts., or 30% of your final semester grade. Due Dates are as follows:

Mon 04/20 Final Paper Proposal & Annotated Bibliography

Mon 04/27 Final Paper Outline

Mon 05/04 Final Paper Conference

Sat 05/09 Final Paper

Sat 05/09 Final Paper Presentation

Assignment instructions for the Outline, Conference, Paper, and Presentation are forthcoming. See below for Proposal instructions.

Assignment

For this research project, you will choose a piece of writing in dramatic theory and criticism (either from our textbook or another source) that we have not read, along with a play that might make a strong companion piece. Write a detailed analysis of both, including the connections between the two, and argue for the inclusion of these readings in a future iteration of this class. Considering the following questions about your chosen texts?

What are the historical contexts (political, economic, social, etc.) that drove the writing of this theoretical text?

How does the theoretical text build upon others we have studied?

How does the theoretical text stand in contrast to others we have studied?

What are the historical contexts (political, economic, social, etc.) that drove the writing of this theoretical text?

How does the companion play exemplify and/or depart from concepts put forth in the theoretical reading?

What theoretical concepts explored in Mark Fortier’s Theatre/Theory are relevant to these texts and how?

What does this pairing add to understandings of the history of dramatic theory and criticism?

For the first phase of this assignment, you will need to propose a topic. Your proposal will consist of two parts: a Topic Summary and an Annotated Bibliography.

Topic Summary

Your topic summary should consist of a numbered or bulleted list, including the following:

  • The theoretical text you plan to study
  • The title of the companion play you plan to include
  • Why these texts interest you
  • 2-3 theoretical concepts from our readings that may be relevant to your exploration
Annotated Bibliography

Along with your proposal, you will submit an Annotated Bibliography of at least three sources that might help you with your exploration. You may not use your chosen theoretical text or your chosen companion play for this bibliography; rather, you should seek out secondary sources that address one or both texts. Your three sources must include at least one book and at least one article from a peer-reviewed journal.

Your bibliography should include properly formatted citations of each source. Each citation should be followed by a brief annotation of three sentences:

Sentence 1: Identify what qualifies the author(s) to write on this topic.

Sentence 2: Give a one-sentence summary of the source’s main purpose/goal/argument

Sentence 3: Explain how this source this relevant to and would help your understanding of your research topic.

Your proposal should be submitted as one Word document with the Annotated Bibliography beginning on its own page. You should follow all Guidelines for Written Work in the course syllabus. Submit to Moodle by the beginning of class on Monday, April 20.

Assessment

The Final Paper Proposal and Annotated Bibliography is worth a total of 10 points, assigned as follows:

1 Companion play title

1.5 Interest

2 Relevant theoretical concepts

Bibliography

1.5 Credibility of sources (.5 per source)

I have 3 sources i want you to help me find other good sources , i will submit my outline , my proposal and do the final paper please

note the proposal he gave me this feedback:100/100This seems like an intriguing paper, Lina. My only real concern is whether you can get 12-15 pages out of it. I think it can be done, though.

and the outline he gave me :75/100
