This week's Reflection Questions include the following:

  1. Make sure to include the following in your reflection: After reading chapter 2 address the following: In your own experience, does your use of mediated communication (smartphones calls/texts, social media, etc.) create connection or alienation or both? Explain. Does our face-to-face communication suffer due to too much computer mediated communication? What strategies might you use to balance the use of these tools?
  2. VIEW VIDEO: TED Talk by Sherry Turkle "Connected, but Alone?" and answer the questions noted in the content below.

Answers should be written following appropriate APA formatting, in paragraph format. I am interested in your own thoughts and ideas. This should not sound like you cut and pasted from the internet. Don't get too caught up in sounding academic. Consider including connections to course material to further justify your points, though.According to TED Talks (2024), "As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? Sherry Turkle studies how our devices and online personas are redefining human connection and communication -- and asks us to think deeply about the new kinds of connection we want to have."

REFLECTION QUESTION(S):

  1. What are 4 take aways from Turkle's talk that you found interesting/disagreed with/etc?
  2. Do you agree with Turkle's overall premise that we are connected, but alone? Explain with reasoning, personal examples, and explanations.
  3. What does this talk prepare you for as you consider your own communication and connections via mediated contexts now and into the future? Explain.
