This week's Reflection Question:
- Answer the question(s) from the VIDEO "You Don't Actually Know What Your Future Self Wants" (Questions noted above)
Answers should be written following paragraph format. I am interested in your own thoughts and ideas. Consider including connections to course material to further justify your points.
TED.com (2024) notes, "You are constantly becoming a new person," says journalist Shankar Vedantam. In a talk full of beautiful storytelling, he explains the profound impact of something he calls the "illusion of continuity" -- the belief that our future selves will share the same views, perspectives and hopes as our current selves -- and shows how we can more proactively craft the people we are to become."
Shankar challenges us with advice as we become a "new person" throughout our lives and that if we can do these things our "future self" will thank us. He encourages us to:
- Stay Curious
- Practice Humility
- Be Brave
REFLECTION QUESTION(S): Based on what you have learned about "the self" including elements of self concept, impression management, and self-disclosure, and digging into Shankar's advice, do you agree that your "future self" will be different than who you are today AND how might you use this advice and what you have learned in Chapter 4 to embrace this evolution? Explain using concepts from Chapter 4 and your thoughts surrounding this talk.
