  • Choose a topic that you have a personal connection to or strong opinions about. This will make the paper easier to write because you will naturally have more to say.
  • Avoid simply describing the topic. Instead, focus on analyzing it by applying concepts and theories from the course.
  • Think of course theories as analytical tools. Use them to explain what is happening beneath the surface of your chosen case or issue.
  • You do not need to cite every course reading, but you should incorporate relevant course concepts. If you rely mostly on outside sources, be prepared to explain why they are more appropriate.
  • Think of the paper as an opinion piece or feature article with academic support. Instead of treating it like a traditional research paper, imagine you are writing an in-depth article that analyzes an issue you care about.
  • For the presentation, do not simply copy your paper onto slides. Highlight the key points, use visuals effectively, avoid too much text, and tailor your message to the audience.
  • Include a reference slide at the end of your presentation so your sources are easy to identify.
  • Do not overuse AI-generated content. AI can help with brainstorming and productivity, but the final work should reflect your own thinking and analysis. AI-generated text often sounds generic and still requires editing and fact-checking.
