Interactive Activity Discussion: Chapter 7
View the TED Talk by Amy Cuddy (Social Psychologist) VIDEO: Amy Cuddy "Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are"
Summary: Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.
After watching the TED Talk video (20:59 mins), please answer the following questions:
1. Do you agree with Amy Cuddy that you can “fake it until you make it” using nonverbal communication? Explain and provide some specific examples that you may use.
2. Think of a communication experience in which you needed to consciously project a nonverbal image, how did you change your nonverbal communication in order to achieve your desired image?
* Please make sure to follow the Discussion Question Rubric for each Discussion Posting. This includes a Personal Response and two Classmate Responses.
