The advent of technology has provided different access to health information and strengthened patient engagement in their health care. Two widely used technologies include electronic health records and personalized health records. Personalized health records focus the need on the patient rather than provider. Examples include your patient portal, 23andMe DNA testing, laboratory patient access, Doctor on Demand, and telemedicine services. Patient health records are kept and maintained by the patient rather than health care organization. In this paper, you will research the different ways each of the technologies impact public health. Concepts of this paper can help strengthen concepts in your final project.
In your paper,
- Differentiate between an electronic health record and personalized health record.
- Analyze the differences between the two health care technologies and how they impact public health.
- Determine the different types of interoperability standards for each technology.
- Compare the different types of modules that are created in each type of technology.
- Discuss the major challenges for each technology.
